What Is MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is an advanced medical imaging technology that uses a magnetic field, radio waves, and computers to produce extremely detailed pictures or images of the human body. Virtually every part of the body can be imaged with MRI, including soft tissue (brain, muscles, tendons, and internal organs) and bone structures such as the spine, knee, shoulder, and other joints. Arteries and veins can also be imaged through MRI by using new magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) techniques.
MRI exams are safe, comfortable, and painless. MRI uses no radiation and has no known side effects.
