Breast MRI

Recognizing that one in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, Merrimack Valley MRI has expanded its breast MRI services with a state-of-the-art 3 Tesla MRI scanner. Breast MRI complements other imaging techniques such as mammography and ultrasound, and should be considered for patients with:

1. A personal history of breast cancer
2. A family history of breast cancer
3. Abnormal mammogram and/or ultrasound
4. Dense breast tissue that would cause limited sensitivity on mammography
5. Breast implants

Our new 3 Tesla offers a number of significant advances in breast MR imaging:

  • Utilizing a dedicated, multi-channel breast coil, the Merrimack Valley MRI 3 Tesla offers faster, easier, and more comfortable bilateral exams, producing high definition images with a high level of detail;
  • Studies are completed in one visit – both breasts are scanned simultaneously;
  • We have a dedicated, curtained off space adjacent to the MRI magnet room for preparation of the breast MRI patient and contrast injection, ensuring patient privacy and dignity;
  • Our CAD software – “CADstream” – is a diagnostic and analysis tool that provides referring physicians with a full yet concise report that offers: 3D lesion visualization and volume calculation; an automated list of suspicious lesions; and full integration of breast spectroscopy;
  • Breast MRI CAD facilitates the workflow of breast MRI studies by automating data analysis, improving image management, and correcting for patient movement, while assisting the radiologist in the interpretation and reporting of these data-intensive studies.
